Hello World

Hello fellow baseball fans (and those non-baseball fans stumbling across this page). Allow me to introduce myself. I'm a 20-year-old college student from Wisconsin majoring in mathematics and minoring in history. In addition to my, well, addiction to baseball, I also enjoy reading about the American Civil War and military history in general. I listen to a lot of music. My interests range from independent rock to oldies, though I can do without rap and most country.

Here's the meat and potatoes of this blog. I'm a Brewers fan but, more generally, a baseball fan. Specifically, I enjoy the statistics in baseball and the curiousities/oddities found therein. I spend a lot of time either calculating statistics of some mildly useful sort or researching strange happenings in baseball history. I often post my findings on the wonderful Brewers blog Brew Crew Ball, under the name TheJay. I don't claim to know everything about baseball and statistics; rather, I would argue the opposite. Many times I misjudge or have no idea of the significance (if any) of what I find, but my personal theory is, "perhaps if the data is out there, someone smarter than I can use it." I also realize some of what I post may have already been "discovered," as it were, but it's my blog, I enjoy finding these things, and I hope you enjoy reading about them. Feel free to leave comments, suggestions, criticisms (nothing too vicious, I hope), etc., whenever you deem necessary.
